Fix Nvidia Graphics Driver Not Compatible With This Version Of Windows

NVIDIA is an American company known for its graphics card products. Most high-end gaming computers are equipped with the latest NVIDIA graphics hardware. Although the company manufactures reliable products, problems may occasionally occur. In this latest installment of our troubleshooting series, we discuss an NVIDIA graphics driver that is not compatible with this version of Windows.

Restart the computer before performing any of the recommended troubleshooting actions below. This will update the operating system and remove any temporary corrupted data that may be causing the problem.

Uninstall and reinstall NVIDIAgraphics driver

One of the best ways to solve this problem is to reinstall the NVIDIA driver on your computer.

  • Press Win+R (theWindows logo key and the Rkey simultaneously) to display the Run window.
  • Type msconfig and press OK. The system configuration opens.
  • When the system configuration opens, go to register Boot . In the Boot Options section, select the Secure Boot check box and press OK.
  • When prompted to restart the computer to apply these changes, click Reboot , and you will be rebooted in safe mode.
  • Open your local drive by clicking on This PC , then on Local Drive C. Here you should see the NVIDIA folder. Right click and select Delete.
  • Click Run and enter Run. Choose Run, the Run dialog box appears.
  • Type devmgmt.msc in the startup box and click OK , which should open the Device Manager window.
  • Expand Field Display Adapter . This list shows all network adapters installed on the device. Right-click on the Nvidia adapter you want to remove and select Delete.
  • Press OK when prompted to remove the device. This removes the adapter from the list and removes the driver.
  • Press Win+R (Windows logo key and R key) simultaneously to display the Run window.
  • Type msconfig and press OK. Then the system settings area opens.
  • When the system configuration opens, go to register Boot. In the Boot Options section, disable Secure Boot and click OK.
  • When you are prompted to restart the computer to apply these changes, press Restart.
  • Download the latest NVIDIA driver for your computer here: https://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx.
  • Run the installation file and follow the instructions on screen. Select the Custom Installation option and select all check boxes in the Custom Installation Options fields. Also check the box to perform a clean install.
  • Restart the computer

Update Windows 10

You may be using an older version of Windows 10 that is causing this problem. This can be remedied by installing the latest operating system updates.

  • Press Windows key + I to open the Windows 10 settings.
  • Scroll down and press Update and Security.
  • On the Windows Update tab, click Check for updates
  • Accept installation of all found updates
  • Windows may reboot a few times during these updates, do not interrupt this.

Check if the NVIDIA graphics driver is not compatible with this version of Windows.

Use the GeForce experience to load the NVIDIAdriver.

If the problem persists, use the GeForce Experience software to download the NVIDIA driver.

  • If you do not have Geforce Experience installed, download and install it from here https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/geforce-experience/.
  • Connect the monitor via the NVIDIA graphics processor when working on a desktop computer.
  • Start the GeForce Experience . When prompted for an update, accept the update, otherwise you may experience problems.
  • Click on the Drivers tab. All driver updates found. You can click Check for Updates on the right to manually start a search.
  • If your latest drivers are found, they will be listed. Click Custom Install to open the file (you can use Express Install if you wish, but then you cannot select the installation options).
  • The driver file is started. Make sure you perform a clean install by checking Perform Clean Install in the NVIDIA installation window. Complete the installation.
  • Restart your computer.
