Miracast is a technology that creates a wireless connection between a mobile device (phone, tablet, laptop) and a TV or projector. This allows you to view the content of your mobile device on a large screen. This makes it easier to share content on a mobile device with a wider audience. Although it is a reliable technology, sometimes problems can occur. In this final part of our series, we look at the error Your PC or mobile device does not support Miracast, and therefore cannot project wirelessly.

Restart your computer or phone before performing any of the recommended troubleshooting steps below. This action refreshes the operating system and removes the corrupted temporary data that could be causing the problem.

How does the miracle work?

  • First, your mobile device must support Miracast. Devices such as Samsung smartphones or other Android phones, as well as those running Windows 8 or 10, are typically equipped with this technology.
  • Second, you need a wireless display adapter. These adapters connect directly to an available HDMI port on your TV and receive the signal from your mobile device.

Several factors can cause this particular problem, from Wi-Fi settings to a device that is not compatible. Below are the recommended troubleshooting steps to follow to resolve this issue.

Make sure your computer is compatible with Miracast.

The first thing to do in this case is to make sure your computer supports Miracast connection.

  • Press Windows + R to open the Run dialog box. Then type powershell and press Enter to open a new powershell window.
  • In the Powershell window, type the following command Get-netadapter|select Name, ndisversion and press Enter.
  • If the returned NdisVersion is greater than 6.30, your PC is compatible with Miracast from a network point of view.

If the version is lower than 6.30, you can do the following.

  • Open a new dialog Execute (Windows key + R).
  • Enter devmgmt.msc
  • Try updating your wireless network adapter by going to Network Adapter and right-clicking on the driver update.

Perform the following steps after upgrading the driver at 6:30 a.m. or later.

  • To test the graphics drivers, press Windows + R to reopen the Run dialog box.
  • Type dxdiag in the Start field and press Enter to open the DirectX Diagnostic ToolPage.
  • DirectX Diagnostic ToolPage Open the Display tab and look for the driver model at the bottom of the Driver column. If the driver model is not WDDM 1.3 or newer, your system is not equipped for Miracast connection.

Make sure Wi-Fi is enabled on both devices.

Miracast doesn’t use your home Wi-Fi network to work, but it does require Wi-Fi to be enabled on both devices because it creates its own direct wireless signal between your mobile device and the TV.

Under Windows 10

  • Go to the Start menu and select Settings.
  • Click on Networks and Internet.
  • Select Wi-Fi in the left pane.
  • Scroll down and press the Change Adapter Settings button.
  • Right-click on the Wi-Fi adapter and click Enable.

On Android device

  • To open the Apps screen on the Home screen, slide your finger up or down from the center of the screen.
  • Go to Settings > Connections > Wi-Fi.
  • Touch the Wi-Fi switch to turn it on.

Enabling IntelGraphics Integration

If the problem occurs while trying to use the computer, try enabling the Intel integrated graphics through the BIOS.

Depending on the computer manufacturer, there are different ways to access the BIOS. On most computers, the BIOS key is one of the F (F2, F4, F8, F10) or Del keys (on Dell computers). You can also search online with the bios key + the motherboard manufacturer.

When in the BIOS settings, look for the Advanced menu (Expert Settings or something similar) and look for an item called or similar to Advanced Chipset Settings. Then select SouthBridge Configuration and change the main graphics card to IGP > PCI > PCI-E.

Change radio adapter setting to Auto

In some cases, Wi-Fi is already enabled for both devices, but they operate on different frequencies. To avoid this, set the wireless adapter to automatic mode.

  • Press Windows + R to open the Run Box dialog box.
  • Type devmgmt.msc and press Type to open the Device Manager.
  • In the Device Manager, expand the rs network adapter drop-down menu, right-click on the wireless network adapter and select Properties .
  • Click the Advanced tab on the Wireless Network Adapter Properties screen, select the Wireless Mode Selection property, and set it to Automatic.
  • Press OK and wait until the network connection is restored.
  • Restart the computer

Disable VPN

If your computer is connected to a VPN, I recommend disabling it first as it can sometimes interfere with Miracast.

Remove the radio adapter driver

If the problem persists after performing the above steps, you should try uninstalling the wireless adapter driver.

  • Press Windows + R to open the Rundialog box. Then type devmgmt.msc and press Enter to open the Device Manager.
  • In Device Manager, expand the Network Adapters menu, right-click on the wireless network adapter, and select Remove Device.
  • You will be asked again to confirm the uninstallation of the driver. After you click Uninstall, the driver will be removed and you will lose the Internet connection if you are connected to a wireless network.
  • Restarting the unit. The next time Windows is started, the missing driver will be reinstalled automatically.
