Avast Antivirus is one of the most popular software available for Microsoft Windows, MacOS, Android and iOS that protects your system from online threats. While it is a robust piece of software, it can sometimes have some problems, which we will cover today. In this final part of our series, we’ll look at Avast Web Shield’s web security.

Restart the computer before performing any of the recommended troubleshooting actions below. This action refreshes the operating system and removes the corrupted temporary data that could be causing the problem.

Web Shield is a feature of Avast that actively analyzes data from the Internet and prevents malware or viruses from entering your system. Several factors can cause this feature to be disabled for no apparent reason. Here are the steps you need to take to solve the problem.

Restart Avast antivirus service

The first thing to do in this case is to restart the Avast Antivirus service.

  • Open the Run dialog box by pressing Windows + R on the keyboard.
  • Type services.msc in the dialog box and click OK to open services.
  • Find the Avast Antivirus service in the list of services, right-click on it and select Properties from the context menu that appears.
  • If the service is active, stop it by clicking the Stop button in the middle of the window. If it’s stopped, leave it.
  • Make sure that the menu option Startup Type in the Avast Antivirus service properties is set to Automatic. Confirm any dialog prompt that appears when you try to set the boot type. Press the Start key in the middle of the window before closing the window.

If you get error , Windows could not start the Avast Antivirus service on your local computer. Error 1079: The account specified for this service is different from the account specified for other services running in the same process. and then perform the following steps.

  • Open the Run dialog box by pressing Windows key + R on the keyboard.
  • Type services.msc in the dialog box and click OK to open Services.
  • Find the Avast Antivirus service in the list of services, right-click on it and select Properties from the context menu that appears.
  • Click on the tab Log On and Browse .
  • Type the name of the object in to select , click Check Names , and wait for the computer to find your name.
  • Press OK when finished, and enter a password in the Password field if you are using a password.
  • Try to get the Avast service working.

Check if Avast Web Protection is enabled and causing a problem.

AvastRepair

If your Avast software has corrupted the data that caused the problem, you can fix it by repairing your Avast installation.

  • Click the button on the Start menu and click the icon in the bottom left corner of the Start menu, which opens the Windows 10 Settings window.
  • Click Apps to open a list of all the programs and tools installed on your PC.
  • Search Avast in Control Panel or Settings and click Modify/Edit. An Avast configuration window will immediately appear, giving you several options.
  • Press the Repair key and follow the instructions on the display to complete the repair. Wait until the utility has repaired your Avast installation and you see the Done message.

Check if Avast Web Protection is enabled and causing a problem.

Avast software update

It is possible that the problem is caused by an outdated version of the software, so you should make sure that the latest version is installed on your computer.

  • Open the Avast user interface by clicking on the Avast icon at the bottom right of the screen in the system tray.
  • In the Avast window, go to the Update tab and you will see that there are two buttons labeled Update. One of the buttons updates the virus definitions and the other updates the program itself.
  • Press both buttons. Avast checks for updates by connecting to its servers, and you should follow the on-screen instructions to navigate through the installation process.

Check if Avast Web Protection is enabled and causing a problem.

Perform a clean install of Avast.

If the problem persists, remove Avast from your computer and reinstall a new version.

  • Download the latest version of Avast here: https://www.avast.com/en-eu/index. It is best to download this file to your desktop.
  • Download the Avast uninstaller here: https://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility. It is best to download this file to your desktop.
  • Disconnect the computer from the Internet.
  • Press Win+R (the Windows logo key and the R key) simultaneously on the keyboard to open Execution Window.
  • Type msconfig and press OK. Then the system settings area opens.
  • When the system configuration opens, go to register Boot . In the Boot Options section, select the Secure Boot check box and press OK.
  • When you are prompted to restart the computer to apply these changes, press Restart , and you will enter Safe Mode.
  • Run the Avast uninstaller on your desktop.
  • When you are finished, press Win+R (Windows logo and R key) at the same time to open Output window.
  • Type msconfig and press OK. Then the system settings area opens.
  • When the System Configuration tab opens, click on the Boot tab. In the Boot Options section, clear the Secure Boot check box and press OK.
  • When you are prompted to restart the computer to apply these changes, press Restart.
  • Install the latest version of the Avast file saved on your desktop.

Check if Avast Web Protection is enabled and causing a problem.
