The best browser on a Windows 10 computer is by far Google Chrome. It is fast, secure and with a minimalist design, making it the best choice for most users. Although it is a reliable browser, you may encounter problems at times. In this latest installment of our troubleshooting series, we look at the problem of tabs in Chrome.
Does Chrome open new tabs randomly? Quick Fix.
Restart your computer or phone before performing any of the recommended troubleshooting steps below. This action refreshes the operating system and removes the corrupted temporary data that could be causing the problem.
Several factors can cause this particular problem, ranging from a problematic extension to a malware infection. Below are the recommended troubleshooting steps to follow to resolve this issue.
Disable all extensions and plug-ins in Google Chrome.
The first thing to do in this case is to make sure you are using Chrome without any extension or plugin installed. This rules out the possibility that you are installing and using an extension or plug-in that could cause a problem. To remove an extension, go to the right side of the address bar and look for its icon. Right click on the icon and select Remove from Chrome. If the symbol is missing, proceed as follows
- On your computer, open Chrome.
- Click on Other and Other tools in the top right corner, and then on Extensions.
- Click Delete on the extension you want to remove.
- Confirm by pressing erase.
- Do it for all extensions.
Make sure Chrome keeps opening new tabs.
Setting the search parameters
In some cases, the problem is caused by a search option that automatically opens the search results. To fix this, simply follow the instructions below.
- Type something into the address bar and press Enter. Chrome opens the list of search results.
- Click on line Settings at the top of the search results. A drop-down menu appears with a list of menu items.
- Press Search Settings. You will be redirected to a page with search filters. Go to the parameter that reads : When the results open, open each selected result in a new browser window.
- Uncheck the box and press Save. Chrome will now open each result in the same tab unless otherwise specified.
Check if the browser is still having problems opening.
Disable background application execution
Chrome supports multiple extensions that can run in the background even when the browser is closed. While this feature can be interesting, it can sometimes cause problems, as in this case. To disable this feature, you must disable applications running in the background.
- In Chrome, click on the menu icon in the top right corner and select Settings from the menu.
- Scroll down to the System section and clear the Go through option to allow applications to run in the background when Google Chrome is closed. Please note that you cannot launch Chrome applications or receive notifications without first launching Chrome.
Check if the problem occurs.
Scan for computer malware
One of the factors that can cause this problem is the possibility that your computer is infected with malicious software. To rule out this possibility, you should scan your computer with Malwarebytes.
- Go to https://www.malwarebytes.com/antimalware/.
- Download the free version.
- Save the installation file on your computer.
- Once the download is complete, double click on the file to start the installation of the malware.
- Follow the instructions on the installation screen. Make sure that the Enable free trial of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware PRO option is not checked.
- Make sure the computer is connected to the internet.
- Openly vicious chicks.
- Malwarebytes usually asks you to download and install all available updates when you open the program. To check for updates and install them manually, go to the Updatetab and then click Check for Updates.
- On the Malware Protection screen, click the Scanner tab. The scanner window opens.
- Select one of the first two options in the scanner window: Quick Search , which is recommended in most cases, or Full Search , which is chosen when the problem cannot be solved with quick search.
- When Malwarebytes detects a threat, it quarantines the suspicious file. Once the scan is complete, go to the Quarantine tab and review the threats detected by Malwarebytes: To permanently remove the malware, select the name of the malware and press Delete.
- When the scan is complete and all quarantined threats have been removed, press Exit to close the malicious bytes.
