Discord is one of the best ways for computer gamers to communicate while playing their favorite computer games. On a Windows PC, you can use the web application or a dedicated application to chat online or send text messages to your teammates. Although this is a fairly stable platform, you may encounter some problems. In this final part of our troubleshooting series, we cover the problem of disagreement with not taking the microphone.

Reboot your system

The first thing you should do in this case is restart your computer. This will allow you to update your system and fix the problems caused by the software error. Once the computer is fully booted up, check if the problem still exists.

Make sure that access to the microphone is allowedCall.

If the application doesn’t get permission to access the microphone, your teammates won’t be able to hear you at all.

  • Go to the Windows Settings menu and select Privacy.
  • Select Microphone under App Resolution in the sidebar.
  • Turn on switch in Allow applications to access the microphone.

Make sure Diskord doesn’t detect the microphone problem.

Check if there is a problem with the external microphone

The problem may be caused by the microphone you are using. Follow the steps below to check if there is a problem with the microphone.

  • Make sure that the microphone is securely connected to the USB port or the 3.5 mm jack of the computer. Try connecting the microphone to different terminals.
  • Make sure there is no hardware mute on your device.
  • Make sure you have loaded the latest drivers and software for your device.
  • Try using a different microphone

Automatic adjustment of input sensitivity

If you disable the Automatic Input Sensitivity setting in the Discord application, there is a risk that this will result in microphone interference. If this is the cause of the problem, the steps below should solve it.

  • Click the User Settings icon in the bottom left corner of the Discord application.
  • Press Voice and Video
  • Move down to Input Sensitivity and turn on the switch next to Auto to detect input sensitivity if it has not already done so. Make sure the bar is green when you speak, then go to the next step.
  • Turn off switchand check that the hand cursor is in the middle. If the handheld’s toolbar pulses when you speak, the problem is now solved.

Ensure that the Talk application is using the correctmicrophone.

If you are playing on a laptop with a built-in microphone, the application can use it as the default microphone instead of a headset. You must specify which microphone is to be used by the application.

  • Click the User Settings icon in the bottom left corner of the Discord application.
  • Press Voice and Video
  • Use the drop-down menu under Input Device to select the headset microphone. Make sure the headset is connected to your computer.
  • Make sure the microphone input volume control is set to the maximum level.

Turn off exclusive mode in Windows

Some applications installed on your computer may be configured to control the audio device driver at runtime. This sometimes causes problems with the Discord application. Try disabling this setting to see if it causes the problem.

  • Right-click on the Sound/Volume icon in the lower right corner and select Recording Devices.
  • Select the headset microphone and click Properties .
  • Select the Advanced tab, and clear the Exclusive modecheck box. Select Apply to confirm.
  • Restart the computer .

Language Reset

If the problem only occurs in the Discord application, it may be caused by an error in the application which can be corrected by resetting the language settings.

  • Click the User Settings icon in the bottom left corner of the Discord application.
  • Press Voice and Video.
  • Press Reset Language Settings.
  • Press Okay to confirm the selection and wait for Discord to reset.

Try to use the Push to Talk feature

Try switching from voice activity to Push-to-Talk mode and see if it works. The difference between the two modes is that you must press a key when you want to speak in push-to-talk mode. It can be awkward, but if it works, you can communicate with your teammates.

  • Click the User Settings icon in the bottom left corner of the Discord application.
  • Press Voice and Video.
  • Check the box next to Push to Talk to enable this feature.
