Google Chrome is now considered the best web browser in the world and is the preferred choice of internet users all over the world. It has several excellent features such as speed and safety. It can also open PDF files without using any third-party software. However, you may experience some problems when trying to open PDF files with this browser. In this final part of our troubleshooting series, we’ll show you how to fix the issue with PDF view not working in Google Chrome.

Google Chrome does not displayPDF files

Chrome has always been one of the most user-friendly browsers. With the built-in PDF feature, anyone can view PDF files without having to download them or use a third-party PDF viewer. Just click on the file to open it in your browser. However, if this is not the case, you should do the following.

Method 1: Disable PDF downloading to fix Chrome PDF Viewer failure

Google Chrome offers an option to download the PDF file instead of opening it. Try to check if it is enabled and if it needs to be disabled.

Time required: 2 minutes.

Deactivating PDF download

  1. Open Google Chrome.
  • You can do this by clicking on the icon in the list of applications in the Start menu.

  1. Press the Menu key.
  • These are the three vertical dots at the top right of the browser.

  1. Press the Settings button.
  • It’s usually the third option from the bottom.

  1. Click on Privacy and Security.
  • This is the third option from the top of the left bar.

  1. Click Site Settings.
  • You can find them in the right bar.

  1. Click on the PDF documents.
  • It is located at the bottom of the right hand control panel.

  1. Turn off the switch.
  • This will automatically open PDFs in Chrome instead of downloading them.

Method 2: Try viewing the PDF file in incognito mode.

You should try if the problem occurs when using the browser in incognito mode. If you can view PDF files in this mode, the problem is probably caused by a browser extension. You need to find out what this extension is and disable it.

  • Open Google Chrome.
  • Click on the Details button in the top right corner.
  • Click on the new Incognito window.
  • Open the website with the PDF file.

If you can view the PDF, try disabling browser extensions to see if there are any problems.

  • Open Google Chrome.
  • Click on the Details button in the top right corner.
  • Click on More Tools.
  • Click on Extensions.
  • Turn off all extension cords.

With all extensions disabled, try viewing the PDF online (in normal browser mode). If you can view the file, activate the extension and view the PDF again. Repeat this step until you can view the PDF file. The last extension you activated is the cause of the problem.
