Google Chrome is the most popular browser available on various platforms today. Many prefer it for its speed and minimalist design. Despite being a fairly reliable and stable browser, you may encounter some issues, which we will fix today. In this latest installment of our troubleshooting series, we look at the issue of Google Chrome slowness on Windows 10.

Restart the computer before performing any of the recommended troubleshooting actions below. This action refreshes the operating system and removes the corrupted temporary data that could be causing the problem.

Several factors explain the slowness of Google Chrome on Windows 10. You may have many tabs open with limited RAM. Keep in mind that each Chrome tab consumes a significant amount of RAM, and if you only have 4 GB of RAM on your computer, you will definitely run into this problem. Another possible factor that can cause this problem is a slow internet connection. Browser load time is highly dependent on internet speed, so make sure your connection is stable.

Here are some general steps you should take to solve this problem.

Turn off browser extensions

If you have more than one extension installed and running in Chrome, it can seriously affect the speed of your browser. If you have extensions installed, you should try to disable them.

  • Open the browser Google Chrome .
  • Click on the Google Chrome Customize and Manage icon in the upper right corner of the browser window.
  • From the drop-down menu that appears, select More Tools and then Extensions.
  • On the Extensions tab, find the extension you want to deactivate or remove.
  • To disable an extension, click the toggle switch in the lower right corner of the extension window to turn it gray. To delete them, press Delete.

Attempt to disable hardware acceleration

Hardware acceleration is a feature that allows a computer to transfer certain tasks normally performed by the CPU to the GPU. In general, this improves system performance, but there are cases where it can cause this particular problem. Try turning off hardware acceleration to see if it is the culprit.

  • Open browser Chrome
  • Click Customize and Control Google Chrome (the icon with the three dots) in the upper right corner, and then select Settings.
  • Scroll down and press Show advanced settings.
  • Go to System and select Hardware Acceleration.
  • Deactivate this setting.

  • Open Windows Explorer
  • Paste the following into the address bar: %LOCALAPPDATA%GoogleChromeUsers Data
  • Find the folder named Default and rename it Backup Default.
