How To Fix Hearthstone Won’t Start On Windows 10 Issue

Hearthstone is a digital trading card game developed and published by Blizzard Entertainment. It can be downloaded for free and is available for Microsoft Windows, MacOS, iOS and Android platforms. In this reverse card game, two players use their deck of 30 cards to play skills or summon servants to reduce their opponent’s life to zero. Although it is a reliable game, sometimes you may encounter certain problems. In this latest installment of our troubleshooting series, we tackle the problem of Hearthstone malfunctioning in Window 10.

What to do if Hearthstone does not start on your computer

Restart the computer before performing any of the recommended troubleshooting actions below. This action refreshes the operating system and removes the corrupted temporary data that could be causing the problem.

Several factors can cause this particular problem, from a corrupt game file to outdated drivers. Below are the recommended troubleshooting steps to follow to resolve this issue.

Core repair

One of the most common problems this can cause is a corrupted game file, so you need to fix the game.

  • Open your Battle.net desktop client.
  • Click on the Hearthstone tab.
  • Open the settings and select Scan and Repair.
  • Wait until the process is complete.
  • Restart the game after the repair.

Try to see if Hearthstone still doesn’t work on Windows 10.

HearthstoneUpdate

You should make sure you are using the latest patch/update in the game to ensure that bugs in older versions are fixed.

  • Download the standalone agent patch files from http://dist.blizzard.com.edgesuite.net/CS/Tools/Standalone/Battle.net-Agent-PC-Standalone.zip.
  • Close all active Blizzard games and startups (including the Battle.net application) and wait at least 30 seconds.
  • Right-click on the taskbar ( ) and call Task Manager( ).
  • Look under processes Agent.exe. If it’s active, stop it.
  • Unzip the individual patch files to : C: ProgramData. Battle.net. To see them, you must enable the Hidden Files and Folders feature.
  • Make sure you want to merge and replace the files.
  • Start Battle.net App or restart the game and try to resolve the issue normally.

Make sure the problem continues to occur on the Windows 10 computer.

Disable Windows antivirus 10

Sometimes anti-virus programs can interfere with a game. To check if this is the cause of the problem, you can try disabling the antivirus program.

If you are using Windowsprotection

  • Select StartupSettings> Update and SecurityWindows SecurityAntivirus and Threat Protection > Control Settings
  • Real-time circuit breaker set to OFF

If you use Avast

  • Locate the Avast icon in your computer’s system tray and right-click on it.
  • Click Avast Control Panels.
  • Look for options to disable the program – the options are to disable the program for 10 minutes, an hour until you restart the computer, or permanently (until you turn it back on yourself). Choose the option that suits you best, and then disable the program.

If you use AVG

  • Find the AVG icon in your computer’s system tray and right-click on it.
  • Click to temporarily disable AVGprotection.
  • Select how long you want AVG to shut down and whether you want AVG to shut down the firewall as well.
  • Press OK to turn off the antivirus program.

If you are using McAfee

  • Locate the McAfee Antivirus icon in your computer’s taskbar and right-click it.
  • Press Output.
  • A dialog box should appear to warn you that McAfee protection will be disabled. Press YES in this dialog box to disable the antivirus program.

If the problem does not occur when virus protection is disabled, add it to the exceptions list.

Disable the streaming option in Blizzard.

One factor that can cause this problem is the built-in streaming feature of the Blizzard application, as it consumes a lot of PC resources. Try disabling this feature and then see if the problem persists.

  • Click the icon in the upper left corner of the Blizzard application and click Settings.
  • Select the Streaming option on the left side of the window and uncheck the Enable Streaming checkbox.
  • Press Done to save the changes and exit.
  • Restart the computer .

Update graphics driver

If your computer has outdated graphics drivers, it is likely that you are experiencing this problem. You need to make sure you have the latest graphics drivers installed on your computer.

If you have an NVIDIA graphics card, follow these steps.

  • Press Win+R (the Windows logo key and the R key) simultaneously to call up the Run window.
  • Type msconfig and press OK. Then the system settings area opens.
  • When the System Configuration tab opens, click on the Boot tab. Under Boot Options, check Secure Boot and click OK.
  • When prompted to restart the computer to apply these changes, click Reboot , and you will be rebooted in safe mode.
  • Open your local hard drive by clicking on This PC, then Local Hard Drive C. There you should see the NVIDIA folder. Right click and select Delete.
  • Click Run and enter Run. Choose Run, the Run dialog box appears.
  • Type devmgmt.msc in the startup box and click OK , which should open the Device Manager window.
  • Expand Field Display Adapter . This list shows all network adapters installed on the device. Right-click on the Nvidia adapter you want to remove and select Delete.
  • Press OK when prompted to remove the device. This removes the adapter from the list and removes the driver.
  • Press Win+R (the Windows logo key and the R key) simultaneously to call up the Run window.
  • Type msconfig and press OK. Then the system settings area opens.
  • When the System Configuration tab opens, click on the Boot tab. In the Boot Options section, disable Secure Boot and click OK.
  • When you are prompted to restart the computer to apply these changes, press Restart.
  • Download the latest NVIDIA driver for your computer here: https://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx.
  • Run the installation file and follow the instructions on screen. Select the Custom Installation option and select all check boxes of the Custom Installation radio buttons. Also check box to perform a cleaninstallation.
  • Restart your computer

If you have an AMD graphics card, follow these steps.

  • Download the AMD cleaning program at https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/faq/gpu-601.
  • Find the file where it was saved and double-click the AMDCleanupUtility.exe file.
  • A dialog box should appear indicating that the AMD Cleaning Utility has detected that the system is in unsafe mode, with an option to restart the system to run the utility in safe mode :
  • Press Yes , the system will reboot and the AMD Cleaning Utility will operate in safe mode.
  • The next dialog box will show a warning that the AMD Cleanup utility will remove all components and applications of the AMD driver.
  • Press OK to continue.
  • After pressing the OK key, the utility resizes to the system tray and displays the progress as a tooltip.
  • The cleaning process continues in the background.  To check the progress, move the mouse over the AMD icon in the taskbar.
  • When the cleaning process is complete, a success message is displayed. Press See Report to display the list of removed items, otherwise press Done to exit the utility.
  • Restart the computer .

Once you have removed the drivers, it is time to install the latest driver update. This can be done with the AMD Driver Auto Detect tool, which can be downloaded from https://www.amd.com/en/support.

  • Visit AMD’s Drivers and Support page for information on how to automatically detect and install Radeon graphics drivers for Windows.
  • Press the DOWNLOAD NOW key to start downloading the executable file from the device.
  • When the download is complete, run the file to start the installation program.
  • Press Install to extract the required files.
  • When the extraction of the files is complete, the program should start automatically.
  • Read the end user license agreement and user upgrade program information.
  • Click the Accept button and set to continue, or close the window to exit the AMD Pilot Auto Detection Tool.
  • After you click Accept and Install, the program will try to detect the installed AMD graphics product and operating system.
  • After successfully detecting your system configuration, the utility displays the latest recommended and additional driver packages compatible with your graphics product, as well as the currently installed driver version.
  • Select the desired version and choose Express Installation.
  • After downloading the driver package, the installation should start automatically.
  • Restart your computer

With integrated graphics (Intel)

  • Press the + R key in the Windows logo to start the Run application.
  • Type devmgmt.msc in the Run dialog box and press Enter to start Device Manager.
  • In Device Manager, expand the display adapters.
  • Right-click on the graphics drivers, click Uninstall , and start the uninstall wizard to remove the drivers.
  • Restart the computer . Once the computer boots up, it should automatically reinstall the same version of the graphics drivers.

See if Hearthstone starts normally.

Reinstall set

If the above steps do not solve the problem, reinstall the game.

  • Open the Battle.net client, right click on Hearthstone and , remove .
  • Navigate to program files and AppData and delete the associated files.
  • Go back to the client and reinstall Hearthstone.

Make sure Hearthstone is running on Windows 10.
