How To Fix Malwarebytes Web Protection Won’t Turn On Issue

Malwarebytes is a popular antivirus software designed for Windows, MacOS, Android and iOS. It is very effective for scanning and removing malware from your device and is available in both free and paid versions. Although it is a stable application, it can sometimes encounter certain problems, which we will cover today. In this final part of our troubleshooting series, we’ll cover the problem of Web security not turning on.

Before performing any of the troubleshooting steps recommended below, try restarting the computer to update the operating system and fix any software bugs that may be causing the problem.

Malware byte restart

Sometimes a simple restart of the program can fix the problem, just as it can fix minor glitches.

  • Right-click on the Malwarebytes System icon in the lower right corner of the screen and select the Malwarebytes exit option.
  • Recover the malicious bytes by double-clicking on the desktop icon or searching for it in the Start menu.

Check that malware byte protection is enabled if the problem persists.

Malware byte update

It is possible that an outdated version of the application is causing this particular problem, so you should check for an update.

  • Open Malwarebytes by double-clicking on the desktop icon or by finding it in the Start menu and clicking on the Settingsicon.
  • In Settings, click the Application tab and under Application updates, click Install application updates.
  • You will see a message indicating that there is no update in progress or a progress message : Updates have been downloaded successfully. Press OK , then Yes when prompted to install the updates immediately.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the upgrade process and see if the problem occurs in the new version.

Check that malware byte protection is enabled if the problem persists.

MBAM Web Protection Driver removal

This problem can be caused by a damaged MBAM web protection driver. If that is the culprit, you need to remove that driver. After the computer reboots, the software loads a new version of the driver.

  • Right-click on the Malwarebytes icon in the system tray at the bottom right of the screen and select Malwarebytes exit .
  • Find Command Prompt, right-click on it and select Run as Administrator . Copy and paste the following command, making sure to hit the Enter key: sc remove mbamwebprotection
  • Reboot your computer by clicking Start Menu >> Icon Power >> Reboot and , reopen Malwarebytes the same way as in step 1.
  • In Settings, click the Protection tab, and under Realtime Protection, check Web Protection. Move the cursor from the OFF position to the ON position.

Check that malware byte protection is enabled if the problem persists.

Add files and folders with malicious software to exclusion list

If another antivirus program is running on your computer, you must add certain files and folders to the exclusion list. There are several ways to access the exclusion list of antivirus programs, so it’s best to find out how to do this in the program you use.

The following records should be included in the exception list.

  • C:³Programs³Malwarebytes³Anti-Malware.exe
  • C:³Programs_Anti-Malwarebytes_assistant.exe

Malicious error suppression

It is possible that the software installed on your computer with Malwarebytes is corrupt. If this is the case, you should uninstall it, then download a new copy and reinstall it. If you are a Premium user, you must have a copy of your activation ID before uninstalling and installing the application.

  • Open MBAM >> My Account and click on Deactivate. Open Advanced Settings >> and clear the Enable Self Protection Modulecheck box.
  • Close the program and download the utility mbam-clean.exe from the Malwarebytes website (the download starts immediately). Close all open programs and temporarily disable the antivirus program.
  • Run the utility mbam-clean.exe and follow the instructions on the screen. Restart the computer when prompted.
  • Download the latest version of MBAM from the Malwarebytes website and install it according to the instructions on the screen. It is convenient to get the latest version of the tool rather than updating it.
  • Clear the check box next to the Test option. After starting the program, click the Activate button.
  • Copy and paste the Activation ID and key into the dialog box that should automatically activate your license.

Check that malware byte protection is enabled if the problem persists.

System recovery

If the computer has registered restore points, returning to a specific restore point where the problem did not occur may resolve the problem.
