The Microsoft Store is a platform where Windows users can buy their favorite software. There are several categories, such as games, entertainment and shows, just to name a few. Some software can be downloaded for free, while others must be purchased. While this is a solid platform, some questions may arise from time to time, which we will address today. In this final article in our troubleshooting series, we’ll show you how to fix a slow download issue on Microsoft Store.

To fix the slow loading issue on Microsoft Store

Restart the computer before performing any of the recommended troubleshooting actions below. This action refreshes the operating system and removes the corrupted temporary data that could be causing the problem.

Several factors can cause this particular problem, from corrupted Windows Store cache data to Internet connection issues. Below are the recommended troubleshooting steps to follow to resolve this issue.

Windows StoreTroubleshooting

The first thing to do in this case is to run the Windows Store troubleshooter. It is an effective tool for correcting most memory errors.

  • Press the Windows + R key to open the Run dialog box.
  • Type ms-settings:troubleshoot and press Enter to open the Troubleshoot tab of the Settings application.
  • Scroll down to find and solve other problems.
  • Click on the Windows Store Apps button.
  • Press the button Start troubleshooting.
  • Wait for the initial diagnosis to complete, then click Apply this correction.
  • Restart the computer after the repair is completed.

  • Type ms-settings:windowsupdate and press Enter to open the Windows Update tab of the Settings application.
  • Scroll down and press the Advanced Settings button.
  • Click the Optimize Delivery button (under Update Notifications).
  • Scroll down to allow downloading from other PCs and click More Options at the bottom of the screen.
  • On the next screen, scroll down to Download Settings and select the checkbox for Limit bandwidth for background download of updates.

Router restarted

Sometimes this problem can be caused by a problem with the Internet connection, which can be solved by rebooting the router. Unplug the router and wait a minute before plugging it back in. This will update your connection to your Internet Service Provider. Then try if the problem persists.

  • Press the Windows + R key to open the Run dialog box.
  • Type cmd and press Ctrl+Shift+Enter to open an expanded command prompt. When prompted by UAC (User Account Control), click Yes to grant administrator rights.
  • On the command line, type wsreset.exe and press Enter.
  • If you see the message that the cache for the store has been cleared, it means that the process is complete.

If the above steps do not solve the problem, you should try disabling the antivirus program as it may slow down the download speed.

If you use AVG

  • Find the AVG icon in your computer’s system tray and right-click on it.
  • Click on the button Disable AVG protection temporarily.
  • Select how long you want AVG to shut down and whether you want AVG to shut down the firewall as well.

If you are using McAfee

  • Find the McAfee Antivirus icon on your computer’s taskbar and right-click on it.
  • Click on Exit.
