How to fix Nvidia control panel that does not open version

Restart the computer before performing any of the recommended troubleshooting actions below. This action refreshes the operating system and removes the corrupted temporary data that could be causing the problem.

Reinstall the graphics driver

The first thing you should do is reinstall the graphics driver, as corrupted files are usually the problem.

  • Press Windows + R and type devmgmt.msc. The Device Manager console opens.
  • In Device Manager, expand Display Adapters, then right-click the NVIDIA adapter in this category and select Uninstall and select the Remove Driver Software for This Device checkbox, then click OK to remove the drivers.
  • Go to the NVIDIA drivers page and search for graphics card drivers under option 1 : Manual driver search. You need to specify the type of graphics card, operating system and other relevant information, and then click Search. Once you have the latest driver for your card, download it.
  • Navigate to the driver download location and start the installer. During installation, select Custom Settings and Uninstall. This will remove previous installations and install the latest working version.
  • Restart your computer.

Activate NVIDIA Display Driver Service

  • Press the Windows + R keys on your keyboard to open a command prompt at runtime.
  • Type services.msc and press Enter to open the Services console.
  • In the Services window, locate the NVIDIA Display Driver Service and double-click it. Set the start type to Automatic and start the service when it is stopped.
  • Repeat for other NVIDIA related services.

Restart NVIDIA management process

  • Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc on the keyboard to start Task Manager
  • Click the Details button and on this tab select Process and look for a process in the NVIDIA Control Panel named nviplui.exe. Right-click and select Complete Task.
  • Try it for other NVIDIA processes.
  • Go to your desktop or Start menu and restart Control Panel.

Repair of register

  • Press Windows + R to open the Run command prompt.
  • Type regedit and press the Enter key to open the Registry Editor. When the UAC prompt asks you to grant access, accept the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT directoryBackgroundContextMenuHandler.
  • Find NvCplDesktopContext, right click on it and select Remove.
  • Go to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT_Directory_Background/Shell.
  • Right-click on Shell and add New > Key named Nvidia Control Panel.
  • Right-click on the Nvidia Control Panel and add the command New > Key with Name.
  • Double-click the default value, type the key C:{WindowsSystem32vcplui.exe, and then click OK.
  • Restart your computer.

Check if the Nvidia control panel opens the problem.

Updating the .NET and redistributable VC++ framework

Nvidia requires these two applications to work together seamlessly. Start Windows Updates by clicking the Start button, typing Windows Updates, pressing the Enter key, and then clicking Check for Updates. If an update is available for the .NET framework and the redistributable VC++, it is downloaded and installed.
