Steam is one of the most popular digital video game distribution platforms, where subscribers can buy and download their favorite computer games directly to their computers. This is a convenient way to get games, compared to buying a copy of the game in a physical store. While it is a pretty solid platform, it does raise some questions, which we will address today. In this latest installment of our troubleshooting series, we cover the problem of Steam getting stuck at 0 bytes when loading Steam.

Before following the recommended troubleshooting steps for this particular problem, try restarting your computer. This allows you to update the operating system, remove corrupted temporary data and fix most software problems quite effectively.

Several factors can cause this particular problem, from corrupted cache data to DNS configuration issues. Below are the recommended troubleshooting steps to follow to resolve this issue.

Disable auto-sensing parameters

Chrome.

  • Open the Chrome browser and click on the Chrome menu (top right) when you open it.
  • After the drop-down list appears, click the Settings button.
  • After opening the settings page, enter a proxy in the top dialog box.
  • In the search results, select the result with the title Open Proxy Settings.
  • When you open the settings, click on the Connections tab at the bottom of the LAN settings tab.
  • Disable the Automatically detect settings option. Save the changes and exit, then restart Steam.

About network settings

  • Press Windows + R to open the Startup application.
  • In the dialog box, enter inetcpl.cpl.
  • Internet access will be available.
  • Click the Connections tab, and then click LAN Settings.
  • In the LAN settings, clear the Automatically detect settings check box. Save your changes and exit to restart Steam.

Check if there is still a problem with loading steam.

Checking the use of the hard disk

If your drive is in the process of copying another file, the Steam process may be paused as it waits for the current task to complete.

  • Press Windows + R to call up Task Manager.
  • Click on the Process tab and check the percentage of disk usage. If it is not complete, i.e. 100%, it means that the problem is different and you can continue to log it.
  • When the operation is complete, you can see which program is causing the malfunction. Basically, updating Windows consumes a lot of RAM and disk space for writing. We can deactivate it through the service option to reduce consumption.
  • Press Windows + R and typein the services.msc dialog box.
  • A window will open showing all the services that are or have been running on your Windows. Scroll down to where you see the Windows Update service. If Windows Update uses most of your resources, it means that it is enabled and running.
  • Click on the service and you will be redirected to its properties. First, stop the service with the option.
  • After stopping, click on the Startup type option. Select Off from the drop-down list. Save the changes and exit.
  • Restart your computer.

Make sure the steam problem persists.

Steam flush and DNS configuration

One way to solve this problem is to try resetting your internet settings and configuration.

  • Press Windows + R to open the Startup application.
  • In the dialog box, type steam://flushconfig.
  • Steam will display a small window to confirm your action. Make sure you know if you qualify for Steam before you proceed. Click on OK. Note that after this action Steam will ask you to reconnect with your login credentials.
  • After completing the above steps, press the Windows + R key to reopen the Run window. In the dialog box, type cmd to display the command line.
  • On the command line, type ipconfig /flushdns. Press the Enter key.

Check if the problem still exists.

Disable logged on user experience and telemetry

Connected User Experiences and Telemetry, formerly known as the Diagnostic Tracking Service, is a Windows-based service that runs automatically and sends data to Microsoft. This is known to affect the steam service, so you should try to turn it off.

  • In the search box, type services.msc and press Enter.
  • Search for the Connected User Experience and Telemetry service (services are listed in alphabetical order).
  • Double-click on the service.
  • Select Stop to end it.
  • Change the service start type to disabled.
  • Steam restart.

Check if the charging problem persists.

Scan for computer malware

One of the factors that can cause this problem is a computer that is infected with malicious software. To rule out this possibility, you should scan your computer for malware and, if found, it should be removed.

  • Visit https://www.malwarebytes.com/antimalware/.
  • Download the free version.
  • Save the installation file on your computer.
  • Once the download is complete, double click on the file to start the installation of the malware.
  • Follow the instructions on the installation screen. Make sure that the Enable free trial of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware PRO option is not checked.
  • Make sure the computer is connected to the internet.

  • Malwarebytes usually asks you to download and install all available updates when you open the program. To check and install updates manually, click the Update tab and then click Check for Updates.
  • On the Malware Protection screen, click the Scanner tab. The scanner window opens.
  • In the scanner window, select one of the first two options : Perform a quick search, which is recommended in most cases, or perform a full search, which is selected if the quick search does not solve your problem.
  • When Malwarebytes detects a threat, it quarantines the suspicious file. Once the scan is complete, go to the Quarantine tab and examine the malicious bytes found: To remove the malware permanently, select the name and click the Remove button.
  • When the scan is complete and all quarantined threats have been removed, click Finish to close the malware bars.

Check if the problem still exists.

Try disabling Ethernet flow control

If you are using an Ethernet connection to connect to a modem or router, you can try disabling flow control. This is a feature that stops the flow of data and causes other services to be prioritized. Si z. For example, if a person on the network is making a VoIP call, they have bandwidth priority, while the Steam process has less bandwidth.

  • Press Windows + R to open the Startup application.
  • Enter devmgmt.msc. This launches your computer’s Device Manager.
  • Go to Device Manager and find the Ethernet network adapter (it is located under the Network adapters drop-down list). When you find it, right click on it and select Properties.
  • After opening the properties, click on the Advanced tab. In the Options list, search for Flow Control and choose Disabled from the Value drop-down list.
  • Save the changes and exit the Device Manager.
  • Restart your computer.

Make sure the load of the pair is set to 0 bytes.

Clear download cache

In some cases, the problem is caused by corrupted data in the cache, so you need to empty the cache.

  • Open your Steam client and go to Settings. It can be found in the top left menu.
  • Search for downloads in the settings panel.
  • Click on Clear download cache. Click OK to confirm your choice. After a while, Steam will ask you to enter your login details. Steam inlet.
