In this latest installment of our troubleshooting series, we tackle the problem of the black screen on Twitch.
Restart the computer before performing any of the recommended troubleshooting actions below. This action refreshes the operating system and removes any temporary corrupted data that may be causing the problem.
Several factors can cause this particular problem, from a DNS failure to server problems. Here are the recommended troubleshooting steps to follow to resolve the issue.
Try Google’s DNS
If DNS does not work on your computer, try Google DNS.
- Press Windows + R, type in the Control Panel dialog box, and press Enter.
- Select Network and Sharing Centerfrom the Control Panel.
- Click on the network you are using.
- At the bottom of the small window that appears, click Properties .
- Double-click on Internet Protocol version 4 (TCP/IPv4).
- Click Use the following DNS server addresses:.
- Set the preferred DNS server : 8.8.8
- Set the alternate DNS server : 8.8.4.4
- Press OK to save the changes and exit.
- Restart your computer

Disable hardware acceleration
Hardware acceleration is a feature that improves the performance of applications, but in some cases it can cause certain problems. To check if this is the cause of the problem, you can try disabling hardware acceleration.
- Open Google Chrome and click on the menu icon (the three vertical dots) at the top right of the screen.
- After opening the drop-down menu, press the Settings button at the bottom of the menu.
- On the Preferences tab, scroll down and click Advanced.
- Go back to the bottom of the tab until you find a sub-item called System. Below that, uncheck the option Use hardware acceleration if available.

- Press Windows + R, type in the Command Prompt dialog box, right-click the application and select Run as Administrator.

Check your router and browser
If the above steps do not solve the problem, perform the following steps.
- Make sure your router does not have firewall settings that block Javascript.
- Try rebooting the router by unplugging it and leaving it off for a minute before plugging it back in.
- Try disabling all extensions and plug-ins in your browser.
- Make sure Flash Player and JavaScript are enabled on your computer.
- Turn on TLS on your computer.
- Avoid using proxy servers or VPNs
