Windows 10 is the latest and greatest version of the Windows operating system, first launched in 2015 and offered as a free update to people who have Windows 7 or Windows 8 installed on their computers. Although it is a robust operating system, there are some problems that can occur from time to time, which we will cover today. In this article, the last in our series on troubleshooting, we look at Windows 10 not having problems with other computers on the network.

Restart the computer before performing any of the recommended troubleshooting actions below. This action refreshes the operating system and removes the corrupted temporary data that could be causing the problem.

  • On the computer, press Start , then press Power at the bottom of the menu and select Stop .

SMB 1.0/CIFS is a component of Windows 10 that is required to discover other computers on the network. Make sure it is installed and activated on your computer.

  • Press the key combination Windows + R to open the Run dialog box.
  • Enter Control Panel and press OK to open it.
  • In Control Panel, change the view to Category and under Programs, click Uninstall a program .
  • On the right side of the screen that opens, click Enable or Disable Windows Features and look for SMB 1.0/CIFS support for file sharing in the list. If it is disabled, check the box next to it. Press OK to save the changes.

Disable IPv6

Feature Discovery Resource Publishing is a service that allows you to discover devices on the local computer network.

  • Find the Function Discovery Provider Host service by clicking on the Name column to sort the services alphabetically.
  • Right-click on the service and select Properties.
  • Go to Startup Type and set it to Automatic , but make sure the service status is Running orRunning.
  • If the status is Stopped, click the Start button in the properties window before proceeding.
  • Go to the Recovery tab, find the First Failure option and select Restart Service. This option provides an automatic restart of the service in case of an error. Do the same for the second and subsequent failures.

When error is received, Windows could not start the function search service on the local computer. Error 1079: The account specified for this service is different from the account specified for other services running in the same process. You must perform the following steps.

  • Use the key combination Ctrl + Shift + Esc to call up Task Manager.
  • In Task Manager, go to the Services tab and click Open Services at the bottom of the window, next to the gear icon.
  • Find the Feature Discovery Provider host service by clicking on column Name to sort the services alphabetically.
  • Right-click on the service and select Properties.
  • Select the Login tab and click Browser….
  • In , type the name of the object to be selected and click Check Names and wait for the name to be verified.
  • Press OK when finished, and enter the administrator password in the Password field when prompted.
  • Press OK and close this window.
  • Go back to Function Discovery Provider Host Properties and click Start.

Perform network reset

A quick way to solve this problem is to reboot the network, which will clear all connection errors.

  • Open the Settings application by pressing the menu button Start and the gear icon at the bottom left of the Start menu.
  • In the Settings window, click Network & Internet and go to Status.
  • The Network Reset button should appear at the bottom right of the page. Click on it and accept all dialog boxes that appear.

Reinstall the network driver

It is possible that the problem is caused by a corrupted network driver. If he is the culprit, you need to reinstall those pilots.

  • Type Device Manager in the search box to open the Device Manager console.
  • Enlarge field Network adapter . This list shows all network adapters installed on the device. Right-click on the adapter you want to remove and select Remove. The adapter is then removed from the list and the device is deleted.

  • Type ipconfig / update and press Enter.
  • Type netsh int ip reset and press Enter.
  • Type grid winsock reset and press Enter.
  • Restart the computer .

Enable automatic configuration of devices connected to the network

  • Press the key combination Windows + R to open the Run dialog box.
  • Enter Control Panel and press OK to open it.
  • In Control Panel, change the view to Category and click Show Network Status and Tasks under Network and Internet.
  • Click on Advanced sharing settings and find the Enable automatic configuration of network devices option in your current network profile and clear the check mark.
  • Restart the computer .
